Statistics that speak for themselves...

The economy, too often limited to western countries, is not isolated from the situations of the inhabitants of the whole world.

The following statistics speak for themselves (2009 census).


6.7 billion : World population. 7 billions today.

3.4 billion : Population who possesses 1 % of the global wealth

499 people are billionaires

1.4 billion people live under the threshold of extreme poverty (2005 figure)

330,000 births per day in the world

115,000 deaths per day in the world

1 billion people suffer from hunger


1 billion people in the world are illiterate

123 million of those illiterate are young people (15 to 24 years old)

36 million children have never seen a classroom

57 million out-of-school children of primary school age (UNESCO, 2011)


1.5 billion people in the world do not have access to drinking water

33.4 million people lived with AIDS in 2008

3 million people die from malaria every year

300,000 people die due to issues related to global warming each year

16 million people consumed cocaine in 2009


3.290 billions inhabitants in urban zones in the world

1 million: New people relocating to urban zones every week

1.326 billion: China population

151.5 million : Nigeria population

8 million: Swiss population


100 million people benefit from microcredit in the world

3 billion people do not have access to basic financial services

15 million people have lost their jobs in the wealthiest countries

90 million more people find themselves in extreme poverty following the financial crisis of 2008...
